A HomeGoods store will celebrate its grand opening September 29 at The District at Howell Mill in West Midtown.  The new store, occupying about 22,000 square feet of a former ROSS Dress For Less, joins fellow TJX Cos. brand TJ Maxx in the Walmart-anchored shopping center. ToNeTo Atlanta first broke news of the planned HomeGoods January 20, 2017.  For over two years there was no activity until earlier this past March, when site work finally started.

TJX has added several new HomeGoods to the greater metro Atlanta area over the past few years including new locations in BuckheadDawsonville, Decatur and Snellville, among others.

There is still no word on when any Homesense stores may come to metro Atlanta, but real estate sources say it will likely happen in the next few years.  The new retailer - described as being "part of the HomeGoods family" - was launched in 2017 in TJX's home city of Framingham, Massachusetts.   Today, the chain has been expanded to include twenty six stores in nine states.  Homesense is described as having the same kind of "same same but different" relationship that Marshalls has with TJ Maxx, whereby each pair of retailers offer similar but different merchandise.  Company executives believe that like TJ and Marshalls, shoppers will likely shop both Homesense and HomeGoods on a single shopping trip.

On an earnings call early last year, TJX CEO Ernie Hermann said the response to the initial U.S. Homesense stores had been “terrific” and announced plans to open 400 more. “We see an enormous opportunity for growth,” Hermann said. “We believe we are still underpenetrated in home, and we see lots of white space we can move into.”

Later this fall, TJX will open new HomeGoods and TJ Maxx stores at the reinvigorated and renovated Chamblee Plaza on Peachtree Boulevard in Chamblee.  Rack Room Shoes, another off-price retailer not under the TJX umbrella, will open adjacent to HomeGoods in The District at Howell Mill and adjacent to TJ Maxx in Chamblee Plaza.

On opening day, the new HomeGoods on Howell Mill will be open from 8 am until 8 pm.
