A new restaurant called Mikkey's Retro Grill Express is coming soon to Smyrna. The restaurant, an offshoot of a concept out of Chicago, will open in Village Pavilion, adjacent to Smyrna Market Village, along Atlanta Road. The restaurant is opening in suite 300, a 1,300 square foot space that in 2017 was reportedly slated to open as "El Back Porch," a cocktail and small plates concept from Andre Gomez, operator of Porch Light Latin Kitchen in the same center.
Restaurateur Erik Nance opened the first Mikkey's in the Chicago neighborhood of Hyde Park in early 2016. Nance later added additional locations in the Chicago area neighborhoods of Stony Island and Bronzeville.
Mikkey's menu features assorted burgers - beef, veggie, turkey, salmon, impossible etc. - chicken sandwiches and wings, among other meals. The restaurant also features sides like garlic Parmesan fries, buffalo chicken fries and beef jerk fries as well as assorted shakes and even a churro donut!
The website suggests that menu offerings may vary by location and as the Smyrna outpost is described as "Express," it may not feature the full menu.
In addition to the Symrna location, the website indicates that a second Atlanta area location is planned for the Atlanta University Center, home to Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University and Morehouse College. Another location is planned for the campus of Howard University in Washington D.C.
The Smyrna restaurant, which ownership hopes to have open by Thanksgiving, will be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner.
