Chick-fil-A will next year complete yet another scrape & rebuild, this time on Peachtree Road in Buckhead.  The Atlanta-based chicken chain received all the necessary blessings earlier this year to construct a new restaurant in place of both its existing restaurant (1901 Peachtree Road) and its current neighbor, Peachtree Road Package Store (1895 Peachtree Road).

The new Chick-fil-A will be situated parallel with Peachtree Road to provide both better access and to make better use of the combined parcels.  The current Chick-fil-A, which was built in 2000, is 5,407 square feet, whereas the new restaurant will be 5,862 square feet, according to planning documents.

Documents supplied to the City of Atlanta in support of the redevelopment describe the restaurant as a "new, custom-designed 5,862 square-foot Chick-fil-A restaurant with a more efficient drive-through facility, pedestrian improvements, reconfiguration of traffic flow to utilize an existing signalized intersection, and extensive landscaping."

In November, the Peachtree at Collier restaurant was awarded Chick-fil-A’s prestigious "Symbol of Success Award" for the third time in the past six years.  This award is given to restaurants that achieve a 20% sales increase over the previous year.  Owner-operator Bryan Auton currently operates the Chick-fil-A and will also operate the new restaurant.

In 2014, plans called for the Chick-fil-A parcel, the liquor store, the former Harry's in a Hurry, and a dry cleaners next door to all be demolished and replaced by Cornerstone Medical Center, a $65 million medical building.  At the time, the Chick-fil-A was to be rebuilt as part of the medical facility, but those plans failed to materialize, and Chick-fil-A was later able to acquire the package store parcel for itself to complete its rebuild.  Earlier plans for the property also once included redevelopment into a Walgreens pharmacy, but it was panned by the nearby Brookwood Hills neighborhood.

Due to the rezoning granted ahead of the planned 2014 development, Chick-fil-A had to get the property rezoned again.

Peachtree Road Package Store is slated to close Friday, December 31, and is currently offering all in-stock wine for 20 percent off.  The package store has been in business since 1969 and was opened by NASCAR co-founder Raymond Parks.

Planning documents indicate that the 1895 parcel (liquor store) is .34 acres and 1901 (current CFA) is .83 acres giving the new Chick-fil-A a combined 1.17 acre parcel.  Real estate records show that Chick-fil-A paid $6.5 million for the package store parcel November 15, 2021.

Chick-fil-A has in recent years completed scrape & rebuilds of existing restaurants in Howell Mill Road on the Westside, Holcomb Bridge Road in Roswell and most recently, on December 2, on North Point Parkway in Alpharetta.  The company has completed several others around the state and also has several other slated to reopen in 2022 including those on Peachtree Road in Chamblee, Roswell Road in Marietta and the Original Dwarf House in Hapeville, among others.

A Chick-fil-A Peachtree employee indicated that plans were pushed from a planned January closure to a currently planned March/April closure, and for the new restaurant to open during the fall of 2022.

Are you pleased to see Chick-fil-A rebuilding its restaurant to be more driver and pedestrian-friendly?  What is your favorite Chick-fil-A menu item?  Do you think Chick-fil-A still serves the best chicken sandwich in town?
