Moe's Original BBQ announced Wednesday that it will shutter its Atlanta franchise as of February 28. The 2,400 square foot restaurant, located at 349 14th Street, opened in early 2011 in place of what had formerly been popular Cuban eatery Kool Korner Sandwiches. The announcement made no mention of any reason for the closure nor did it indicate that the restaurant would reopen elsewhere. Owners Brett and Brian Mancuso thanked everyone for their support over the years.
The announcement said in part:
"It has been a great ride but now it is time to move on to other projects."
The Atlanta outpost is the third Moe's to close in metro Atlanta in recent years following the closure of the Roswell restaurant in 2019 and the Carrollton restaurant in 2018, which last less than three years and two years respectively. Moe's continues to operate Atlanta area locations in Peachtree Corners and Rome with a third coming soon to Columbus.
Started in Alabama and now based in Colorado, there are currently 50 Moe's franchises throughout 14 states. In addition to the upcoming Columbus location, another Alabama outpost, the chain's 22nd in the state, is coming soon to Hartselle, according to the company's website.
