A growing wings franchise is hoping to take flight in Piedmont Heights.  Urban Wings, which launched in 2021 on Atlanta's "Upper Westside," has inked its first franchise agreement that will bring it to 1825 Piedmont Avenue.  The new Urban Wings will occupy a roughly 1,500 square foot building that dates to 1964 when it was a KFC franchise.  In recent years, the building played host to a Subway franchise while the parking lot seemed to function as a showcase for a vehicle promoting "Fitness with Jeff."

The original Urban Wings was opened by serial entrepreneur Moez "Moe" Hasni and his business partner Salman "Sam" Badruddin in a former Papa John's at 2065 Defoors Ferry Road.  Hasni, in addition to being co-founder and CEO of Urban Wings, is also a franchisee of several hotel, restaurant and fuel brands including Dunkin', Holiday Inn, BP and Savi Provisions locations in Peachtree Hills, Collier Road and Brookhaven, among other businesses.

Urban Wings offers a rather diverse menu of bone-in and boneless chicken wings as well as chicken tenders, panko shrimp, a chicken sandwich and vegan wings.  The restaurant also has a tremendous variety of sides like sweet potato waffle fries, spicy cheese curds, tater tots, fried green tomatoes, mozzarella sticks, onion rings and fried mushrooms, among its roughly twenty side options.  The restaurant's wings, which are accompanied by more than 25 sauce options, are offered bone-in, boneless or in the case of the vegan wings, "bone-in" via a sugar cane stick.  Urban Wings sources their chicken from locally owned Springer Mountain Farms while their vegan wings are supplied by a California business.

Hasni tells ToNeTo Atlanta that the Piedmont Heights outpost should be open by mid-October. Additionally, another new Urban Wings franchise is planned for the first half of 2023 at 2680 East College Avenue in Decatur where it will open as part of a multi-tenant strip center now under construction.

Have you been to Urban Wings?  Who in Atlanta do you think offers the best chicken or vegan wings?  Where else would you like to see Urban Wings open?
