[EXCLUSIVE] Popular Buckhead Restaurant to Shutter After More Than A Decade in Business

Del Frisco's Grille, which opened in Buckhead in 2012, is closing this week, according to a source who spoke to ToNeTo Atlanta on condition of anonymity.  The 9,000 square foot two-story restaurant, situated in front of the Waldorf Astoria Atlanta Buckhead, is located at 3376 Peachtree Road, not far from Lenox Square.

Del Frisco's Grille replaced the short-lived craft and craftbar restaurants, both concepts from celebrity chef Tom Colicchio.  The pair of restaurants opened at what was then The Mansion on Peachtree, A Rosewood Hotel, in late 2008, but closed in early 2011.  The large space was fully renovated to suit the needs of the more casual Del Frisco's, but the most noticeable change even to those not dining, was the addition to a two level patio to the front of the restaurant along Peachtree Road.

When Del Frisco's Grille opened, it was owned by Del Frisco's Restaurant Group.  Today, following a series of transactions, Del Frisco's Grille (DFG) and Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse are owned by Landry's, a huge hospitality company based in Houston, Texas controlled by billionaire Tilman Fertitta.  In addition to Del Frisco's, Landry's also owns Morton's The Steakhouse, which used to be across the street from DFG in Buckhead, as well as The Palm, which is basically across the street from DFG in the lobby of the Westin Buckhead hotel, among others.

Notably, DFG Atlanta suffered significant damage during the violent looting and fires of May 2020. The restaurant renovated and fully reopened shortly thereafter, with its sudden closure this week coming as a surprise to many.

The company's next closest locations to metro Atlanta are in Tennessee (Brentwood & Nashville) and Florida (Tampa & Fort Lauderdale).

Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse, the more upscale of the two concepts, debuted in Dunwoody in September 2018 in the street level of Phase 1 of Park Center, the new State Farm headquarters development.  Sources indicate that the Dunwoody restaurant will remain open.

The DFG chain has struggled in other markets, too, with locations in Palm Beach and Phoenix both closing in late 2015 and others in Little Rock; Stamford, CT; and Upper Kirby in Houston all closing in 2018.  The outposts in Washington, D.C.; Bethesda, MD; and Chestnut Hill and Burlington, MA shuttered in 2019 just ahead of the sale to Landry's.  The chain also  closed a restaurant in Uptown Dallas in 2021.

According to the Del Frisco's Grille website, there are currently seventeen locations throughout the country including the one in Atlanta.  Four of the chain's remaining restaurants are in its home state of Texas.

The Buckhead restaurant is expected to close at the completion of dinner service Thursday, August 31 Sunday, September 3.
