Waffle House plans to close its longstanding location at 5335 Roswell Road in Sandy Springs after more than fifty years in business, according to employees at the restaurant.  The Waffle House will reportedly close permanently as of midnight on December 26.  Fulton County property records indicate the 1,363 square foot restaurant first opened in 1967.

No reason was given for the closure, but the Norcross-based chain has a history of periodically closing locations.  Metro Atlanta is littered with not-so-cleverly disguised former Waffle House restaurants.

Fulton County property records indicate the .75 acre site in Sandy Springs most recently traded hands in February 2021 when it sold for $2.2 million.

For Sandy Springs area diners seeking Waffle House fare, there are still several locations along Roswell Road including one about two miles north at 6445 Roswell Road and another about three miles south at 3735 Roswell Road.

Waffle House started in Avondale Estates in 1955 and today has nearly 2,000 locations across 25 states.

Are you surprised to see Waffle House close this longstanding location?  Do you have a favorite Waffle House location?  What would you like to see open in place of this soon to be former Waffle House?
