Hampton+Hudson, a neighborhood bar & restaurant in Inman Park, has closed. The restaurant posted to its Instagram page March 2 saying "we are temporarily closed for maintenance," but multiple former employees as well as others close to owner and serial restaurateur Billy Streck tell ToNeTo Atlanta the restaurant is in fact closed permanently.
Hampton+Hudson, along with locally owned sunglass retailer Select Shades, was located in the courtyard separating the two wings of the residential tower. Select Shades, an independent Sunglass Hut of sorts, was also paying premium rent for the space that was likely marketed as a gold mine, but which turned out to be a money pit with the retailer opening in 2017 but shuttering in 2020.
The fact is, Hampton+Hudson was a good restaurant: it had an overall rating of 4.2 with about 850 reviews on Google. That said, it was hidden and surrounded by several more visible restaurants from larger operators, but was no doubt still paying the "BeltLine premium," given its proximity to the popular trail.
In addition to Hampton+Hudson, Streck also owns or is a partner in Cypress Street Pint & Plate, Nina & Rafi, Lyla Lila, Pielands Pizza, and Pizza Jeans in Atlanta, and Standard Service in Gainesville. Streck previously opened Grain in Midtown in 2014 but closed it in 2017.
