Captain D's has closed one of its oldest Atlanta area restaurants after nearly 50 years in business. The restaurant, located at 705 Holcomb Bridge Road in Roswell, opened in 1978 and closed earlier this week, according to sources in the area.
Fulton County tax records indicate the Captain D's restaurant in Roswell measures 2,314 square feet and sits on .46 acres.
A separate adjacent parcel, 695 Holcomb Bridge, also saw a restaurant open in 1978 but it was a Shoney's, then owner of the Captain D's brand. After a series of failed restaurants, the space is today occupied by Kassa's Beer Wine & Spirits.
The quick serve seafood chain also closed a restaurant outside Greenbriar Mall in southwest Atlanta in 2023 that earlier this year opened as a new Popeyes. ToNeTo Atlantareported in August that another longstanding Captain D's, this one on Montreal Road in Tucker, also closed.
Other local Captain D's including those on Church Street and Candler Road, both in Decatur, remain marked "temporarily closed" on the Captain D's website.
More than a decade ago, the chain closed several in-town locations but has more recently opened several new units in the greater metro Atlanta area, including those in Marietta (former Dunkin'), Norcross (new build), and Stockbridge (former Hardee's), among others.
Overall the chain operates more than 100 restaurants in Georgia.
