More chicken coming to Cobb Parkway
Athens-based Zaxby's plans to open a new location on Cobb Parkway in an outparcel of an existing Target store. The new Zaxby's will be built on the site of an old recently demolished Ethan Allen furniture store.
An adjacent Bally Total Fitness was also demolished, with another larger restaurant reportedly in talks for that space.
The Target store was originally a Richway with the entire parcel now owned by Target. Target is reportedly selling the two outparcels to the the respective restaurants.
A long since empty storefront to the left of Target is also getting a new tenant with Bealls Outlet currently under construction.
Zaxby's has been extremely active in metro Atlanta over the past few years with its number of overall Georgia stores now eclipsing that of crosstown rival Chick-fil-A. Each restaurant chain has over 200 locations in Georgia, but Zaxby's is in the lead with a few more as of this month.
Chick-fil-A restaurants are often larger, with more "moving parts" and a more extensive menu. For its part, Chick-fil-A recently opened a new location in Emerson, Georgia and has new locations coming soon near Georgia Tech and outside Perimeter Mall.
Zaxby's has added a number of new locations to Cobb countyalone over the past twenty-four months or so.
It's likely that Zaxby's is hoping to capitalize on the increased traffic that the upcoming SunTrust Park will bring. In case you missed it, the Atlanta Braves are scheduled to relocate in 2017 to SunTrust Park, currently under construction about a mile away.
