Essex Bagels & Deli of Johns Creek has closed.
The boiled bagel eatery opened in early 2009 on Medlock Bridge Road, and offered New York-style bagels and other deli favorites. The restaurant closed last week, and I'm told many of its employees have managed to find work at nearby BB's Bagels. Essex bagels were larger than those from Einstein Brothers or Panera Bread, but similar in taste and size to that of BB's Bagels & Diner. The similarity, I'm told, was due to the fact that BB's "helped out" Essex. What "helped out" means is a bit of a mystery, but sources tell me that BB's basically wholesaled their bagels to Essex.

Gino's NY Pizza Bar will open in place of the shuttered bagel joint in the coming months. I have not spent nearly as much time in Johns Creek as I have in other neighborhoods, but question whether any neighborhood in Atlanta needs another pizza joint.
While BB's is apparently "seeking qualified franchisees," perhaps some ITP resident wants to simply purchase the bagels wholesale and make them more accessible to intown residents.
Do you / would you drive to the burbs of Johns Creek to satisfy your bagel cravings? Who offers the best bagel in Atlanta? Are you a Johns Creek resident pleased with the addition of Gino's NY Pizza Bar?
