New restaurant coming to downtown Tucker

Jason Hylton and James Maggard, owners of The Local No. 7 in downtown Tucker plan to open a new restaurant later this summer.  Slated to be called "572," the new, more upscale eatery will occupy the former Sweet Dee's Bakeshop on Main Street, a door down from Local 7.

Sweet Dee's opened in 2012 and closed this past Decemberafter its owner reportedly got a job offer too "sweet" to pass up.

The area that would become Tucker was known as "Militia District 572" in 1821, which inspired the restaurant name. The State created DeKalb County on December 9, 1822 and Militia District 572 became DeKalb’s 18th District.

The Local No. 7 gets its name "the significance of the number 7 and history of Tucker. Tucker is 7 miles from Atlanta, Stone Mountain, Decatur, Chamblee, Doraville, and Lilburn; at one time had 7 churches; 7 high schools within 7 miles of Tucker, and Tucker was laid out in 1907. All of this made it obvious that we had to name our restaurant with number "7". And what better drink to go with number 7 than whiskey, so we offer a wide variety of whiskey's to go with our great burgers. The "Local" relates to the local railroad which thirty feet from our door."

The owners of The Local 7 are partnering with restaurant veteran Jonathan Allen to open the new restaurant. Allen spent over five years with Rathbun's and Krog Bar acting as Chef de Cuisine / Beverage Manager / Restaurant Manager.

572 will reportedly feature a more upscale environment and menu than that of Local 7, or any other Tucker restaurant for that matter.  The menu will emphasize locally sourced items but a spokesperson with whom I spoke made sure to mention it won't be a run of the mill "farm to table" establishment.

Jason Hylton and James Maggard also operate Matador Cantina in Oakhurst.  A second Matador previously operated in Glenwood Park, but closed in 2013.  The Local No. 7 opened in late 2011.

Plans call for the 572 to open in late July or early August.
