Buckhead bar getting the boot at Phipps Plaza?
Yebo, a South African tapas restaurant & bar, will reportedly soon leave Phipps Plaza. Yebo opened at Phipps in late 2012, replacing the short-lived Latitude restaurant, which had replaced The Grape. Sources say that when Yebo signed their lease with mall manager Simon Property Group that it was a short term lease. Yebo's lease was reportedly only meant to serve as a "place holder" for the mall.
SIMON is in the midst of a multi-million dollar overhaul of its Peachtree Road facing facade. It's believed that the Yebo space is being marketed to potential retailers seeking Peachtree Road visibility.
Yebo is the sibling restaurant of north Buckhead's 10 Degrees South, both owned by restaurateur Justin Anthony.
In addition to the planned relocation of Yebo, Anthony is also launching a new concept at Ponce City Market's Central Food Hall. "Biltong Bar" will offer counter-service and will serve gourmet pies, salads, craft beer, cocktails, and a full wine list. A retail shop will offer beef jerky and other specialty jerky meats.
It would not shock me to see Yebo close permanently to allow for Anthony to focus on 10 Degrees South and Biltong Bar.
What are your thoughts on Yebo? Do you think it will reopen? Have you been to Yebo, did you like it?
