French retailer prepares to close at Lenox Square.
Nice, France based Façonnable will soon shutter their 4,538 square foot store at Lenox Square in Buckhead. A well placed source indicated that the retailer is throwing in the towel, unable to "find a core customer." I first heard rumblings of the likely store closure earlier this spring. A store official confirmed the closure this week.
Façonnable is currently offering discounts of as much as 90% off in-stock merchandise in their Buckhead store. A store associate indicated that only the Lenox Square store is closing, but industry chatter indicates the entire chain may be endangered.
Façonnable was started in France by Jean Goldberg in 1950. The company was owned by the Goldberg family until department store Nordstrom purchased the brand in 2000. For much of the 2000s, the brand was carried nearly exclusively in Nordstrom, as a house brand of sorts. Nordstrom sold the company to Lebanese private equity group M1 Group in 2007.
The Façonnable store at Lenox Square opened in 2009 in a portion of the former Polo Ralph Lauren space. The space is between Vineyard Vinesand Club Monaco.
The chain has struggled lately after losing its wholesale business with both Bloomingdales and Nordstrom.
Personally, I'd love to see a retailer such as Ted Baker or the Porsche Design store open at Lenox Square. Were you a fan of the Façonnable brand? What would you like to see open in the space next?
