Fresh off their Atlanta debut at Midtown Promenade in Midtown, Handel's Ice Cream has announced that two additional Atlanta area shops will open before the end of the year.  A new shop in Cumming is slated to open in November, followed by an exciting new location in Buckhead in December.

The Cumming shop is located at 580 Peachtree Parkway in a new strip center developed by Atlanta-based Riverwood Properties.  Handel's will occupy an 1,800 square foot space in the center joining Caribou, which opened this past August in a similar sized endcap space with a drive-thru.

Handel's is slated to open November 21 and will celebrate the occasion with several promotions and giveaways including awarding "Free Ice Cream For A Year" to the first 100 guests at the shop on opening day.  Winners will receive a business card sized voucher that provides for one complimentary small sugar/cake cone or dish per week for one year. The offer is good only at the Cumming shop and is valid only for those 18 and older.

Handel's Buckhead is slated to debut December 12 and will mark the Youngstown, Ohio-based chain's 150th shop nationwide! (Whataburger this past January celebrated an opening in Atlanta marking its 1,000th nationwide.) The company plans to commemorate the occasion with an extra special opening event, details of which are expected soon.  The Buckhead shop is located in Buckhead Landing (3330 Piedmont Road), the former "Disco Kroger" center, that has in recent days welcomed new locations of both Burtons Grill & Bar and Aviva by Kameel.

ToNeTo Atlantaexclusively reported November 8 that Atlanta's latest Publix is slated to open in the center December 4.

A guide from National Geographic titled "The 10 Best of Everything" named Handel's its number 1 ice cream [on the planet]!

Jennifer Schuler, most recently CEO of Wetzel's Pretzels, was named CEO of Handel's this past March.  Among her objectives are growing Handel's as she did Wetzel's, which under her direction grew from 200 to 350 units.

According to its website, Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream is made fresh daily at each store using the best ingredients available.  The company has created more than 100 different flavors with local Handel's offering 45 flavors at all times including ice creams, sherbets, sorbets, "ices," and fat-free and no sugar added options.

Sources close to the company tell ToNeTo Atlanta that Handel's continues to scout metro Atlanta for corporate and franchise-owned locations.

Have you been to Handel's?  Who in metro Atlanta do you think makes the best ice cream?  Where in metro Atlanta would you like to see Handel's open next?
